Hartford Stage, under the leadership of Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak and Managing Director Michael Stotts, today announced the casts and creative team for Classical Repertory for a New Generation, the theatre's new initiative to produce two classics in repertory each season, featuring a new adaptation of Marivaux's La Dispute, in repertory with Shakespeare's Macbeth, both directed by Tresnjak, the first shows of the Tony Award-winning theatre's 50th Anniversary Season.

The Hartt School has announced the appointment of Dr. Karen Cook as Assistant Professor of Music History. Cook, who earned her Ph.D. in Musicology and a certificate in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from Duke University, begins her new position at Hartt this September. Cook received Master of Music degrees in Musicology and Theory Pedagogy from Peabody Conservatory (Baltimore, MD) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and Religion from Gettysburg College (PA).

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the Ivoryton Playhouse stage tonight, July 3rd. The movie was released in 1984 and the soundtrack reached #1 on the Billboard charts and sold over 17 million copies worldwide. Its journey to Broadway began in 1996 when director Walter Bobbie collaborated on a stage adaptation with Dean Pitchford and Tom Snow. FOOTLOOSE finally previewed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in the summer of 1998, and opened on Broadway on October 22nd. The next day, the show broke the box office record for the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it continued to thrill audiences into July, 2000.

The National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest has selected Hartford Stage to participate in Shakespeare in American Communities and receive a $25,000 grant for its upcoming production ofMacbeth to help support performances and educational activities, including in-school residencies, workshops, or post-performance discussions.

The show has been said to be aimed towards Broadway since it first opened, with American producers on board from day one. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that 'Tune, now 74, is getting back in the game. At the behest of his good friend Jimmy Nederlander, a theater legend in his own right, Tune's in London inspecting a new show called 'Top Hat.'

TOP HAT is currently playing at the Aldwych Theatre, and will close on October 26 to make room for Andrew Lloyd Webber's new STEPHEN WARD Musical, which is set to open in November 2013. Thare are plans for a UK tour in 2014-15.

FOOTLOOSE opens in Ivoryton on July 3rd and runs through July 28th . Performance times are Wednesday and Sunday matinees at 2pm. Evening performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday at 8pm. The Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award (LMJH Award) was inaugurated in 2008 and recognizes the important work of theatre, dance and opera administrators. Recipients of the LMJH Award have at least 10 years of demonstrated commitment to the performing arts, in addition to having made an impact on the industry in Toronto. The award is named after Leonard McHardy and John Harvey, the celebrated owners of Toronto's Theatrebooks, which they co-founded in 1975, and which now stands as one of the longest surviving independent bookstores in the country.

The Hartt School will welcome acclaimed tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz and Chair of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Jackson, who's appointment begins in August, will serve as the educational and administrative leader for the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, and will teach, work with ensembles, assist in recruitment and development efforts, and represent the Institute and The Hartt School both internally and externally.

Currently in its world premiere run at Burbank's Colony Theatre through May 19th, Falling for Make Believe is a 95-minute bio-musical-dramedy chock full Broadway nostalgia, debilitating alcoholism, covert homosexual dalliances and musical fantasy sequences that is often-times bewitching, occasionally bothersome, and at points just downright bewildering.

Hartt Philharmonia and Sinfonia? perform their final concert of the 2012-2013 academic year on Saturday, May 4, at 7:30 PM??, under the direction of Maestro Edward Cumming, Director of Orchestral Activities at The Hartt School.
