Westport Country Playhouse's TARTUFFE Adds Performance, 8/5

Westport Country Playhouse announces that due to ticket demand for its current production of Molière's timeless comedy, "Tartuffe," an extra performance has been added on Sunday, August 5, at 3 p.m.

"We're thrilled by the audience response to 'Tartuffe'," said Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director. "It's a delight to hear the laughter and see our patrons have a wonderful time in the theater. I couldn't be happier that the extension means even more people will be able to enjoy this wise, funny, and enriching comedy."

The Playhouse production updates the comedy to the present day. The plot centers on Orgon, who has fallen under the spell of Tartuffe, the most saintly man he's ever known. But Orgon's family believes Tartuffe a fraud, out to steal Orgon's wealth, bed his wife, and wed his daughter. Will Orgon come to his senses before it's too late? The stage is set for a battle of wills in a wickedly funny and farcical take on the outer limits of hypocrisy.

Three-time Tony Award-nominated actor Marc Kudisch plays the title role of "Tartuffe." Mark Nelson plays Orgon, Nadia Bowers is cast as Elmire, and Patricia Conolly portrays Madame Pernelle. Others in the cast are Justin Adams, Chrissy Albanese, Matthew Amendt, Tyrone Mitchell Henderson, Jeremy Lawrence, William Peden, Jeanine Serralles, and Charise Castro Smith. David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director, directs the production. The work is translated by Richard Wilbur.
