Contemporary Players Ensemble- Tuesday, December 8
The Contemporary Players Ensemble presents "ABC's of Postmodernism". This concert features three classic American postmodern composers, John Adams, William Bolcom, and John Coriliano. The Ensemble will perform John Adams' minimalist wild and wonderful work Grand Pianola Music features two grand pianos; Bolcom's Commedia for "Almost" 18th Century Orchestra and Orphee Serenade; and Poem in October, John Corigliano. The concert will take place at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium. Admission is free. Hartt Symphony Orchestra- Wednesday, December 9

The Fall semester German Diction Class performs all 26 Lieder of Robert Schumann's song cycle Myrthen, coached and accompanied by instructor Kevin Jones. Myrthen includes poems by Goethe, Heine, Rückert, and Robert Burns, and was presented to wife Clara Schumann by husband Robert Schumann on their wedding night. Admission is free. The Hartt School presents the Bolcom and Morris, part of The Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series on Thursday, December 10, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the HartFord Foundation for Public Giving. The Hartt School presents Band Geeks! on Thursday, December 10 through Sunday, December 13 in the Roberts Foundation Theater, at the Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Performances on Thursday, December 10 through Saturday, December 12, are at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 PM. Band Geeks! is a high-stepping tribute to high school marching bands and misfits everywhere. With just nine members and dwindling funds, the Cuyahoga High Marching Beavers are close to extinction. When a troubled athlete is relegated to their ranks, Elliott, the tuba-playing band captain and Laura, his best friend, must find a way to unite the band, overcome their pride and embrace their inner geek.
