Stage Repertory Co and Palace Theatre Presents NOT THAT WE'RE BITTER 11/15

TheStage_Repertory_Company_and_The_Palace_Theatre_in_Danbury_Presents_NOT_THAT_WERE_BITTER_20010101

On November 15th at 8:00pm, TheStage Repertory Company and The Palace Theatre in Danbury will present the next installment of Musical Mondays! featuring Gaby Alter & Sophie Jaff's Not That We're Bitter.

Not That We're Bitter is a pop cabaret that explores the highs, lows, and further lows of love, life and dating in today's world. With a sound reminiscent of the seventies and eighties' catchiest hits -- think Motown plus Pointer Sisters plus Billy Joel -- songwriters Sophie Jaff and Gaby Alter examine where guys go after that first date ("The Island of Lost Men"), the joy of watching your friends succeed beyond your wildest dreams ("I'm So Happy For You"), and why sometimes it's better to be an octopus ("Wish"). Not That We're Bitter has played several sold-out shows at The Duplex Theater in Greenwich Village and its various songs have been featured at Lincoln Center.

Join Alter & Jaff onstage at November's concert will be Lauren Blackman, Chris Citelli, Cait Doyle (Hot Mess in Manhattan, Rated RSO) and Molly Hager (Fat Camp, It's Kind of a Funny Story).
Gaby Alter is a 2008 Jonathan Larson grant recipient, and winner of the 1998 San Francisco Bay Area Theater Critics' Circle Award and the 2004 New York Fringe Festival Songwriting Award. He wrote music and lyrics for Band Geeks! which was produced by Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut this past spring. Other musicals include Reality! with playwright Itamar Moses (Cape Cod Theatre Project) and 29 with Tommy Newman (Joe's Pub, NYU Steinhardt). He has written songs for PBS television, public radio, and films including the documentary Nerdcore Rising (South by Southwest Film Festival). He is an alumnus of the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at Tisch and a member of ASCAP. www.gabyalter.com.

Sophie Jaff is the bookwriter/lyricist for the children's musical A Shelter In Our Car, which the New York Times called a "poignant, sensitively written and buoyant show." It was produced in 2007 at Symphony Space in New York, and published by Boosey & Hawkes. It is due to be produced again in 2012 at the Off-Broadway John Jay Theatre, with tours in both New York and California. She is an alumnus of the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at Tisch and is the recipient of the Frederick Loewe Foundation Grant for her musical Story of an African Farm written with Rob Hartmann. Her new musical Erika's Wall, co-written with Kathleen Tagg, was produced by The Music Theatre Company in Chicago this July. Sophie's work has been performed at Lincoln Center Library, The Duplex, The Gershwin and Goodspeed Musicals. Her first children's book, The Adventures of Lula the Discontented Cow, was published in 2005 (Human & Rousseau). Other work includes her song cycle Everything and her three women show The Anti-Yoga Drinking Club. To learn more about Sophie go to www.sophiejaff.com or check out her non-travel writing blog ‘I'm Not' at www.maybemeansno.wordpress.com where she blogs about all the places where she isn't and probably won't go to anytime soon.

Musical Mondays! is an ongoing monthly series that is produced by the Danbury-based theatre company at the historic downtown Danbury venue. The series will continue to feature the music of contemporary musical theatre composers performed by some of Broadway's hottest talent.
