Newington Mainstage to Present ASSASSINS, 6/8-16

Can a madman's bullet shake the foundation of America's ideals? Newington Mainstage seeks to address this question as well as many others as it presents "Assassins," the final musical in its 2011-2012 inaugural season.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman, the multiple Tony Award winning "Assassins" is a surreal, thought-provoking, disturbing & alarmingly funny musical that lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, this most American of musicals is an historical account that explores the dark side of the American experience.

Newington Mainstage's production of "Assassins" will be co-directed by Cindy Lesser of Wethersfield, CT and Kelly Boucher of Ellington, CT, with musical direction by Michael Gowdy of Wethersfield CT. Newington Mainstage is delighted to have assembled an extraordinarily talented cast for "Assassins," comprised of residents who hail from New Haven, Tolland, Litchfield, Hartford, Middlesex and Fairfield Counties. The gang of presidents, bystanders and merry murderers includes Sofia Ancona , Kelly Boucher, Michael Cartwright, Christopher Cavallo, Kristin Ceneviva, Ian Galligan, Rosanne Gowdy, Eric Michael Gray, Lucien Harton, Craig Hines, Stephanie Layne, Cindy Lesser, James McKirdy, Ron Nassef, Ryan Pipke, Christa Pizzoferrato, Mike Ritts & Garth West.

"Assassins" will be performed June 8, June 9, June 15 and June 16 at 8pm and June 10 at 2pm. Performances will be held at NCTC Performing Arts Theatre, 743 North Mountain Road, Newington CT. Newington Mainstage is a fresh New Theatre Company run in partnership with NCTC Performing Arts Theatre, home of the Newington Children's Theatre Company – (NCTC), CT's oldest operating children's theatre.
