Newington Mainstage presents the third in its series of Brodway Master Classes – FOSSE STYLE with Broadway veteran Carolyn Kirsch – on Monday, November 19.

What better way to learn the technique and style of the legendary Bob Fosse that from someone who learned directly from him? Carolyn Kirsch is a veteran of more than 15 Broadway shows over a 21-year period of working in theatre in New York City and beyond. Her many credits include A Chorus Line (Original Broadway Cast), Chicago (with Bob Fosse), How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Sweet Charity, Promises, Promises and CoCo (which starred Katharine Hepburn), among countless others. Carolyn is also one of the few teachers in the country to be recognized and sanctioned by the Bob Fosse/Gwen Verdon Estate to teach the Fosse style.

In this class, Ms. Kirsch will teach students original Bob Fosse choreography from Chicago, as well as taking his technique and placing it one a radically different piece of music, showing the versatility of his style. The class will also focus on lyric interpretation and the importance of knowing the text – as well as the subtext.

"Liza Minnelli once said that everyone song or dance is a scene in itself," Kirsch says, "and too often we forget what we are saying with the words to a song we know like the back of our hand. I believe that it's not all about hitting that high note or doing the perfect pirouette – but understanding what the character is going through, and why they suddenly burst into a song or dance."

Carolyn Kirsch's FOSSE STYLE Master Class will take place on Monday, November 19 at 7:00pm at the Newington Town Hall Auditorium (131 Cedar Street, Newington). Participation is $40 and space is limited – so reserve your spot today! The class will also include a Q&A session with Ms. Kirsch immediately afterwards.
