The National Theatre of the Deaf is delighted to be the recipient of a grant from The City of New London Water Authority Community Fund for performances that will feature the Little Theatre of the Deaf company in their family-oriented production Stories In My Pocket Too during the month of August 2012 in a collaborative partnership with Hygienic Art at the Hygienic Art Park.

Barry J. Weiner, Chairman, Water & Water Pollution Control Authority stated, “This award is to fund your theatre program. The authority is pleased to award this grant to you to assist in your endeavors for the good of the community.”

The check was presented to NTD Executive Director, Betty Beekman along with other grant recipients at the annual festivities held on June 18, 2012 in the New London City Council Chambers. Each year the Water Authority Community Fund Grant Board makes these awards that benefit the community of New London. The awards are now celebrating their fourteenth year of granting. To date they have given over $500,000 underwritten by Veolia Water with no cost to local water rate payers.

Hygienic Art is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to creating an enriching cultural experience in the city of New London Connecticut. Performances at the Hygienic Art Park will allow NTD to bring this worthwhile and entertaining program to the greatest number of children and family audiences.

“We are so happy to be part of the New London Cultural Arts scene,” said Ms. Beekman, “This is our first collaboration with Hygienic Art and to receive this funding from the community fund is so exciting and a wonderful welcome for NTD.”

Each performance of Stories In My Pocket Too is approximately 45 minutes in length and will be performed simultaneously in ASL and the spoken word. In the program, the family audiences will be engaged in seeing and hearing stories and improvisations derived from original material, literature and social awareness that will entertain as well as expand their familiarity with Deaf Culture.

Performance Schedule for Stories In My Pocket Too at Hygienic Art Park.

Sunday, August 19 – 10 am & 1 pm
Tuesday, August 21 – 10 am & 1 pm
Sunday, August 26 – 10 am & 1 pm

The performances are free to the public. The Hygienic Art Park is located at 79 Bank Street New London, CT.
