Jorgensen Center Welcomes The Canadian Tenors, 2/25-26

Jorgensen_Center_WElcomes_THE_Canadian_Tenors_20010101

First came the Four Tenors, then the Latin Americans, and then the Irish. Now, claiming the North American identity in this friendly battle among male upper-range voices are the Canadian Tenors, coming to Jorgensen's Cabaret Series on Friday and Saturday, February 25 & 26, at 8 p.m. Audience members can enjoy casual fare and drinks, available for cash only, at their tables as they delight in one of Canada's most sought-after exports.

Who can ignore a tenor, from any land, and, well, when they come in packs of four...we're goners. These glorious tenors perform a blend of classical and contemporary pop in diverse and powerful styles that charm thousands, move mountains and raise untold monies for public television.
Clifton Murray, Victor Micallef, Remigio Pereira and Fraser Walters move from powerful anthems to the most beautiful melodies in a unique repertoire sung not only in English and French, but also in Spanish and Italian, reflecting their multicultural heritage and establishing the group internationally. The Winnipeg Free Press calls them easy on the eyes and the ears.

The Tenors have recently appeared on Oprah alongside Celine Dion, on Dr. Phil and at the NBA All-Star game performing the Canadian National Anthem. They have entertained dignitaries, including Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Stephen Harper, Queen Elizabeth and Duchess Sarah Ferguson, and have shared stages with John Legend, Wyclef Jean, Andrea Bocelli, Quincy Jones, Sting and Cheryl Crow.

Their holiday album entitled "The Perfect Gift," went gold in Canada in only three weeks and was released by Universal in the U.S. last fall. The group is now composing some originals for "Continuing," the album they plan to record this spring.

The foursome, which started as a trio, appeared in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and at the G20 Summit, where they sang in front of world leaders such as Barack Obama. They have been named the Canadian Ambassadors for Toronto's 2015 Pan Am Games, having written and performed the theme song.

Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts is located at 2132 Hillside Road on the UConn campus in Storrs. Doors open at 7 p.m. Sandwiches, dessert, alcohol and other beverages are available for cash. Regular tickets are $45, $38 and $34, with some discounts available. For tickets and information, call the Box Office at 860.486.4226, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., or order online at jorgensen.uconn.edu. Convenient free parking is available across the street in the North Garage.
