Goodspeed Opera House Announces Complete 2012 Season Offers & Events

Goodspeed Musicals, under the leadership of Executive Director Michael P. Price, has announced the 2012 musical season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn.

Goodspeed promises that, "The 49th season includes three outstanding musicals that are sure to delight theatregoers: bold and brassy Mame will run from April 20 – July 1; Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel will run from July 13 – September 23; Something’s Afoot, a musical whodunit will run from October 5 – December 9."

Goodspeed describes each of the shows as follows:

"Come along for the madcap adventures of Auntie Mame and her adoring nephew. Surrounded by an eccentric cast of characters, she celebrates the Roaring 20s, overcomes tragedy and sails through life without missing a fad or a dance step. Jerry Herman’s delightful score is packed with favorites “Bosom Buddies,” “We Need a Little Christmas” and more. Brimming with optimism and zest, Mame will keep you laughing while warming your heart!"

"Mame features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee and is based on the novel Auntie Mame by PatRick Dennis and the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Mame will be directed by Ray Roderick (Goodspeed’s My One And Only, Singin’ in the Rain, and 42nd Street) and choreographed by Vince Pesce (Associate Choreographer of Broadway’s Anything Goes, The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town and Little Shop of Horrors). Mame will be sponsored by Liberty Bank, Mohegan Sun and The Shops at Mohegan Sun."

"Carousel has captivated audiences around the world with the powerful love story of an innocent young millworker and swaggering carousel barker. He meets a tragic end but is given one chance for redemption by delivering hope to the daughter he never knew and whispering words left unspoken to his wife. Featuring “If I Loved You,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “June is Busting Out All Over.” Experience one of the most celebrated musicals of all time!"

"Carousel features music by Richard Rodgers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on Ferenc Molnar’s play Lilliom and adapted by Benjamin F. Glazer. Original Dances by Agnes De Mille. It will be directed by Rob Ruggiero (Broadway’s High and Looped and Goodspeed’s Show Boat, Camelot and 1776) and choreographed by Parker Esse (Associate Choreographer of Broadway’s Finian’s Rainbow and A Tale of Two Cities). Carousel will be sponsored by Amica Insurance, Comcast and Robinson & Cole LLC."

Join the fun as Miss Tweed the amateur sleuth sets out to solve the crimes…but the butler didn’t do it! With songs like “I Owe It All To Agatha Christie,” it’s a zany whodunit for all to enjoy.
Something’s Afoot features book, music and lyrics by James McDonald, David Vos and Robert Gerlach with additional music by Ed Linderman. Casey Hushion (Associate Director of Broadway’s Elf, In the Heights and The Drowsy Chaperone) will direct. A choreographer will be announced soon. Something’s Afoot will be sponsored by Connecticut Light & Power."

Goodspeed's offers include: "For families, you just can’t beat Goodspeed Musicals’ Kid’s/Teen Nights. Introduce your favorite young person to the magic of musical theatre. Kid’s/Teen Nights allows each adult who buys a full-priced ticket to purchase a $15 ticket for a child, age 5 – 18. Kid’s Nights are scheduled for Mame on April 25 and 26 at 7:30 pm and April 27 at 8:00 p.m. In August, Teen Nights for Carousel will be July 18 and 19 at 7:30 pm and July 20 at 8:00 p.m. There will be three Teen Nights for Something’s Afoot: October 10 and 11 at 7:30 pm and October 12 at 8:00 p.m. A Meet the Cast autograph session will be held following the Friday evening Kid’s/Teen Night performances."

Young theatergoers can take advantage of the Student Rush discount. From 10:00 a.m. on the morning of a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday evening performance, the Goodspeed Box Office will sell student rush tickets, based on availability, to any student, regardless of age, who provides a verifiable school identification (ID card, letter on school stationery, etc.). Rush tickets will be sold for the discounted price of $15 and are limited to one per student. This price is good for any available seat at the Opera House in East Haddam.

Adults, grab your friends and get together for Goodspeed Musicals’ popular Wine Tasting Series Goodspeed Musicals partners with Shore Discount Liquors of Deep River, Conn., for this wonderful event. Attend the first Sunday evening performance and treat yourself to a sampling of fine wines with appetizers provided by the Gelston House of East Haddam. This season, Goodspeed will host Sunday tastings on April 22, July 15, and October 7. Tickets for the Wine Tasting are available through the Box Office for an additional $12 with purchase of a ticket to that evening’s performance. The Wine Tasting begins at 5:00 p.m. and will be held in the Libby Metzger Kaye Members Lounge at the Goodspeed Opera House.
